I'm just wondering what time games start. I saw the schedule but no times are listed.
Thanks.

Excellent question, Ken!

Usually they start at noon. Sometimes they inevitably start later because we're often playing teams from out of town that might be driving up 95 on a Saturday morning or run into some other problem on the way.

This week's games against New Hampshire are supposed to start at 10:30.

Either way, since we usually play double-headers, it is difficult to miss us entirely.

What were the final scores of your first two games on April 29th? What rules will you be playing under on May 12th and when does the game begin? Connie Wilson

There seems to be a schedule location discrepency for May 20th. You schedule has the game at Mello Field and the Game Hens Scheudule has it at The Hen House is Warwick. Which location is it? Connie Wilson

Hi Connie,
The games on the 12th are supposed to begin at 10:30. We'll be playing an 1884 game and an 1886 game. I'll try to get the answers to your other questions.

Thanks for a great day of Vintage Baseball. Looking foward to your next game on the 20th. Providence Grays ALL THE WAY. Was there a Providence team during the period of 1887-1890? I can't find anything. Does your historian know if there was a providence team the years between the disbanding of the Major League team and 1891 when the Minor League team seems to have begun? Connie:
Providence did not have an entry in any organized professional league from 1887 to 1890, although several semi-pro teams did play here, including the Providence Colored Grays, an African-American team. Some games were held at the Messer Street Grounds through 1888.

I did find some information on this African American team. Should I include these teams in my short book on Providence Baseball History. There was a display on this subject at Rhode Island College not too long ago. There was a player from Brown Willaim E White who played 1 inning for the Providence Grays in 1879 at Messer St Grounds. If anyone can provided additional information for my project I would greatly apprecaite it. Hope to be at your game on June 16th. Connie Wilson

What is the history toward the terms that were used in vintage baseball. I found a list of terms and wonder how they came to mean what they did and the history behind those old names such as ballist, striker, cranks, bowler, foul baser, etc

I have a question. Why did the rules differ from season to season in the 19th century?

Where did the terms used in vintage baseball come from? They are unusual terms and I'm curious as to where they came from and when they were first used.

Where is the Hen House located? I can't seem to find the address on anyone's website or blog.
