First games

The Grays are off to a wonderful start this season, with four wins and no losses. We began the season with a trip to New Jersey, where we defeated the always tough Elizabeth Athletic Club 15-9, and then met a new opponent from Elkton, Maryland on neutral turf, beating them 13-7. A short exhibition by 1864 rules followed, which the Grays won as well.

On May 12, we followed with two wins at home over the New Hampshire Granite, another new opponent. They proved a great challenge in the first game, but the Grays prevailed 10-7. The second game went easier for the Providence lads, but we still will not take the Granite lightly in the future.

The Providence resurgence has been fueled by three hardy new players, infielders Jeff Temple and Mike Duggan, and outfielder Joe Gee. If they all maintain their enthusiasm and manage to keep their bones intact, the Grays will be a formidable challenge for this season's crown.
